Treasure in the Woods: Part 1

Sup, peeps? I don’t know what the hell happened to my other column. I guess it’s gone. Oh well. Some quick hits: We found a drummer. Bud from the Transcenders is going to roll with us for a while. We got together Sunday and played with him. That was the fact.

The Space BarThe Space Bar is almost ready to open for business. Just a few small details, and we’ll be serving White Russians with Buttery Nipples. This image is an artist’s conception of the finished product.

We’re having a party on Saturday, August 5th. If you know where I live, which you don’t, you’re welcome to come. Or if you think you should be on the guest list, send me a mail and I’ll have my people contact you. Yes, the bar will be open. Yes, the music will flow from the KLH Audio I have hung beneath my eves. Yes, Phil Collins might be there.

And now to the column. A friend and I were walking to the lake the other day, through an expanse of woods and underbrush, to take our little girls to feed the ducks. It was hot outside, and stagnant in the woods, where no real wind could penetrate. This stretch of green is probably half a mile wide, and it’s the fastest way to the lake from my house. Well, Stout put his daughter down and stepped off the beaten path a little ways to take a leak, while we waited for him. A few minutes later, he came back and said this to me: “Dude we have to come back alone, later.” He then pulled his knife out and raked a large area of bark off a nearby tree, to mark the spot.

He told me later that he’d found something in the woods. He had stepped on something that resembled a large door knocker. A steel ring several inches across. I frowned at him, thinking what the fuce? Who cares? But apparently, the door knocker is more of a handle. And it’s steadfastly attached to something hidden in the dirt.

Yeah, we are going back. And I’m giddy excited about it too. Our next trip out there is this Friday evening. I’ll keep you posted on what we find. Stay tuned!
